There was an upset when higher ranked JA Vichy (11-8) was rolled over on the road by seventeenth ranked Nantes (8-13) 91-71 on Friday. Nantes looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists comparing to just 12 passes made by JA Vichy's players. The best player for the winners was American-Armenian point guard Terry Smith (185-1986, college: Mercyhurst) who scored 18 points, 6 rebounds and 8 assists. American power forward Charles Thomas (202-1986, college: Arkansas) chipped in 23 points and 6 rebounds. Nigerien center Serge Mourtala (212-1998) produced 14 points and 9 rebounds and American-Georgian point guard Corey Fisher (186-1988, college: Villanova) added 14 points and 5 rebounds respectively for the guests. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Nantes moved-up to sixteenth place. Loser JA Vichy dropped to the eighth position with eight games lost. Nantes will meet higher ranked Denain Voltaire (#15) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. JA Vichy will play against ALM Evreux (#10) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
