Regular Season Round 23: Castello - Melilla 92-91

A very close game took place in Castellon between Castello and Melilla. Ninth ranked Castello (12-10) got a very close home victory over 12th ranked Melilla (11-12). Castello managed to escape with a 1-point win 92-91 on Friday evening. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Melilla. Castello made 19-of-22 free shots (86.4 percent) during the game. It was an exceptional evening for point guard Joan Faner (176-1990) who led the winners and scored 19 points and 5 assists. American forward Eric Stutz (205-1992, college: EKU) accounted for 14 points and 9 rebounds for the winning side. Castello's coach Toni Ten used an eleven-player rotation in such tough game. Montenegrin guard Nikola Rakocevic (191-1991) came up with 22 points and Senegalese forward Mouhamed Barro (204-1995) added 17 points and 9 rebounds (perfect from the field making all seven shots !!!) respectively for Melilla in the defeat. Five Castello and four Melilla players scored in double figures. Castello moved-up to sixth place, which they share with 3 other teams. Loser Melilla dropped to the eleventh position with 12 games lost. They share it with Alicante. Castello will meet league's second-placed Estudiantes in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Melilla will play against Almansa (#14) and hope to secure a win.
