Regular Season Round 17: Aris - AEK 91-73

There was a minor upset in Thessaloniki where 7th ranked AEK (7-9) was defeated by ninth ranked Aris (7-9) 91-73. It looked good early as AEK took a 8-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Aris took control winning two of next three quarters and eventually winning the game that evening by 18 points. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 22 assists. American forward Shakur Juiston (201-1996, college: Oregon) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 12 rebounds. His fellow American import point guard Anthony Cowan Jr (183-1997, college: Maryland) contributed with 21 points and 6 assists for the winners. Five Aris players scored in double figures. The former international guard Nikos Pappas (194-1990, agency: Network Sports International) answered with 17 points and Canadian-American Andrew Rautins (193-1986, college: Syracuse, agency: Network Sports International) added 18 points in the effort for AEK. Both coaches tested many bench players saving starting five for next games. Aris moved-up to seventh place, which they share with defeated AEK. Aris' supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Thessaloniki to the arena Iraklis.
