There was a surprise result when thirteenth ranked Algeciras (7-15) edged higher ranked Moron (9-11) in Morón de la Frontera 97-95 on Monday. American swingman Maverick Rowan (201-1996, college: NC State) notched 33 points (!!!) to lead the effort and naturalized Gibraltar point guard Miguel Ortega (187-1991) supported him with 17 points and 5 assists. Algeciras' coach Javier Malla used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. Even 23 points and 5 rebounds by Portuguese guard Diogo Brito (198-1997, college: Utah St.) did not help to save the game for Moron. Guard Luis Parejo (194-1989) added 16 points and 7 rebounds for lost side. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Algeciras maintains thirteenth position in Silver with 7-15 record. Loser Moron dropped to the tenth place with 11 games lost. Algeciras will meet at home higher ranked Clavijo (#9) in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Moron will play against the league's second-placed Burgos having rather not much hope for a victory.
