Second Stage Round 3: Poitiers - Caen 86-82

There was no surprise when Caen (3-8) was defeated on the road by Poitiers (8-3) 86-82 on Saturday. However just four-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. Poitiers made 32-of-42 free shots (76.2 percent) during the game, while Caen only scored fifteen points from the stripe. Poitiers looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. The best player for the winners was American swingman Marcus Relphorde (198-1988, college: Colorado) who scored 23 points and 5 rebounds. Power forward Jim Seymour (200-1998) chipped in 14 points and 9 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was Nigerian forward Martins Igbanu (203-1997, college: Tulsa) who recorded 20 points and 8 rebounds and naturalized DR Congolese point guard Carl Ona-Embo (188-1989) added 16 points and 4 assists respectively. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Caen's coach tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Poitiers will meet Lyon (#9) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Caen will play against Etoile Angers and hope to secure a win.
