There was no surprise when 12th ranked Gran Canaria 2 (7-15) lost to fifth ranked Menorca (13-8) in Mahon 64-77 on Sunday. French center Thomas Smallwood (213-1995, college: Chattanooga) notched a double-double by scoring 14 points and 10 rebounds to lead the effort and Puerto Rican point guard Jhivvan Jackson (183, college: UTSA) supported him with 17 points. Menorca's coach Javier Zamora used entire bench and allowed the starting five to rest. Even 15 points and 5 assists by guard Alberto Moreno (190-1996, college: A&M-Commerce) did not help to save the game for Gran Canaria 2. Georgian forward Aleksandre Phevadze (206-1998) added 11 points and 10 rebounds for lost side. Four Gran Canaria 2 players scored in double figures. Menorca maintains fifth position in Silver with 13-8 record. Loser Gran Canaria 2 dropped to the thirteenth place with 15 games lost. Menorca will meet Cornella (#8) on the road in the next round. Gran Canaria 2 will play against Mollet (#7) and hope to secure a win.
