Regular Season Round 23: Reggio Emilia - Sassari 85-81
Date: March 20, 2022
There was no surprise when 10th ranked Sassari (9-11) was defeated on the road by fifth ranked Reggio Emilia (12-10) 85-81 on Sunday. However just four-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. Reggio Emilia outrebounded Sassari 37-24 including 25 on the defensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. It was a great evening for American-Hungarian forward Mikael Hopkins (206-1993, college: Georgetown) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 12 rebounds (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field). The former international guard Andrea Cinciarini (191-1986) helped adding 19 points and 9 assists. Four Reggio Emilia players scored in double figures. Lithuanian forward Eimantas Bendzius (207-1990) responded with 25 points and American-Polish guard David Logan (185-1982, college: Indianapolis) scored 17 points. Sassari's coach Demis Cavina let to play ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. The victory was the third consecutive win for Reggio Emilia. They moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Tortona. Loser Sassari keeps the tenth position with 11 games lost. Reggio Emilia will meet league's second-placed Virtus BO in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Sassari will play against Fortitudo BO (#15) and hope to secure a win.
