There was an upset in Istanbul where higher ranked Galatasaray (13-10) was defeated by twelfth ranked Merkezefendi (8-15) 76-63 on Sunday. Latvian Rihards Lomazs (190-1996) scored 27 points and 5 assists to lead the charge for the winners and American point guard Eugene German (183-1997, college: NIU, agency: Network Sports International) chipped in 19 points during the contest. Four Merkezefendi players scored in double figures. Serbian guard Vasa Pusica (196-1995, college: Northeastern) responded with 11 points and the former international swingman Goksenin Koksal (196-1991) scored 10 points and 5 rebounds. Newly promoted Merkezefendi maintains twelfth position with 8-15 record. Loser Galatasaray keeps the sixth place with ten games lost. They share the position with Tofas. Merkezefendi will meet at home higher ranked Tofas (#7) in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game.
