Fourteenth-ranked Almansa (10-16) was very close to win a game against eighth ranked Alicante (14-12). Alicante managed to secure only one-point victory 95-94. However their fans expected much easier game. Dutch forward Joey van Zegeren (208-1990, college: Northwestern, agency: Duran International) scored 22 points and 9 rebounds (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field) to lead the charge for the winners and point guard Pedro Llompart (187-1982) chipped in 12 points, 5 rebounds and 9 assists during the contest. American-Dominican Eddy Polanco (190-1994, college: SE Louisiana) responded with 19 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists and point guard Josep Perez (184-1994) scored 14 points and 5 assists. Four Alicante and five Almansa players scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Alicante have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to seventh place. Almansa at the other side keeps the fourteenth position with 16 games lost. Alicante will play against Caceres (#10) on the road in the next round. Almansa will play against Juaristi ISB (#15) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
