There was a surprise result in Las Palmas where tenth ranked Gran Canaria (12-11) defeated higher ranked Tenerife (14-9) 89-77 on Saturday. Gran Canaria dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Tenerife's 28 and made 26-of-31 free shots (83.9 percent) during the game. They outrebounded Tenerife 33-20 including 23 on the defensive glass. The best player for the winners was Canadian-Jamaican guard Dylan Ennis (188-1991, college: Oregon, agency: BeoBasket) who scored 22 points and 5 rebounds. Senegalese center Khalifa Diop (215-2002) chipped in 12 points and 7 rebounds. Georgian center Giorgi Shermadini (217-1989, agency: Octagon Europe) produced 23 points (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) and Brazilian-Italian point guard Marcelinho Huertas (191-1983) added 14 points and 5 assists respectively for the guests. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Gran Canaria moved-up to eighth place, which they share with Murcia and Breogan. Loser Tenerife dropped to the sixth position with nine games lost. Gran Canaria will meet higher ranked Baskonia (#7) in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Tenerife will play against the league's second-placed Real Madrid and will have a slim chance for a victory.
