The most exciting game of round 5 in the BSL took place in Oberwart. This derby game ended with only three-point defeat on the road of 4th placed UBC St. Poelten (11-11) to third ranked Gunners Oberwart (12-9) 80-77 in the game for the third place. UBC St. Poelten was tied after three quarters but could not keep up in the last quarter eventually losing the game. 28 personal fouls committed by UBC St. Poelten helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Greek guard Ioannis Chatzinikolas (196-1995) stepped up and scored 14 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners and American guard Connor Cashaw (196-1996, college: Creighton) chipped in 15 points. Chatzinikolas is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Five Gunners Oberwart players scored in double figures. Finnish guard Aapeli Alanen (201-1996, agency: Blacktop Management) responded with 20 points and American forward Chris Ferguson (206-1989, college: Mid-Continent) scored 9 points and 12 rebounds. UBC St. Poelten's coach tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Gunners Oberwart maintains third place with 12-9 record having just five point less than leader Vienna. UBC St. Poelten at the other side keeps the fourth position with 11 games lost. They share it with UBSC Graz. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
