Regular Season Round 9: Gtuni - Mgzavrebi 102-72

The most exciting game was a derby match between two local teams from Tbilisi: Gtuni (#1) and Mgzavrebi (#6). Gtuni (8-0) crushed visiting Mgzavrebi (0-7) by 30 points 102-72. The game was mostly controlled by Gtuni. Mgzavrebi managed to win fourth quarter 25-24. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Mgzavrebi 52-26 including a 20-7 advantage in offensive rebounds. Gtuni looked well-organized offensively handing out 30 assists. American forward Jamani Pierce (200-1996, college: ENMU) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 26 points and 12 rebounds for the winners and his fellow American import forward Eric Frederick (203-1989, college: TxWes) chipped in 22 points, 10 rebounds and 6 assists. Five Gtuni players scored in double figures. Gtuni's coach Davit Nozadze felt very confident that he used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The best for the losing side was forward Giorgi Meskhi (204-2003) with 24 points (on 10-of-13 shooting from the field) and guard Luka Qutidze (180-2002) scored 8 points and 10 assists. Gtuni have an impressive series of eight victories in a row. Newly promoted Gtuni maintains first place with 8-0 record. Mgzavrebi at the other side still closes the standings with seven games lost. Gtuni's supporters look forward to another derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Tbilisi to the arena Orbi.
