There was a small surprise in Oldenburg where fifteenth ranked EWE Baskets (11-18) beat 13th ranked Braunschweig (10-17) 90-76 on Saturday. EWE Baskets looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists. The best player for the winners was American power forward Tai Odiase (206-1995, college: UIC) who scored 20 points and 9 rebounds. His fellow American import TJ Holyfield (203-1995, college: Texas Tech) chipped in 16 points and 9 rebounds. The former international swingman David Kramer (196-1997) produced 17 points and 5 rebounds and Czech center Martin Peterka (205-1995) added 18 points (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) respectively for the guests. Braunschweig's coach Jesus Ramirez rotated ten players and allowed the starting five to rest. EWE Baskets moved-up to twelfth place, which they share with Bayreuth. Loser Braunschweig dropped to the fourteenth position with 17 games lost. They share it with Heidelberg. EWE Baskets will meet higher ranked ALBA Berlin (#4) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Braunschweig will play against Hakro Merlins (#9) and hope to secure a win.
