Regular Season Round 39: Aalst - Amsterdam 118-65

The game between closely ranked teams ended with eighth ranked Belgian Okapi Aalst's (5-1) home victory over 9th ranked Dutch Amsterdam (1-5) 118-65 on Saturday. Okapi Aalst shot 61.6 percent from the field. They also forced 21 Amsterdam turnovers. They shot the lights out from three sinking 15 long-distance shots on high 60.0 percentage. Okapi Aalst looked well-organized offensively handing out 31 assists comparing to just 8 passes made by Amsterdam's players. It was a great evening for Serbian Nikola Popovic (211-1997, college: Boston Coll.) who led his team to a victory scoring 24 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists (on 11-of-14 shooting from the field). Lithuanian guard Paulius Valinskas (191-1995) helped adding 19 points and 8 assists. Five Okapi Aalst players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was German Tibor Taras (198-1997) with 19 points and 6 rebounds and guard Sam Vianen (195-2002) scored 10 points. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Okapi Aalst moved-up to second place, which they share with 4 other teams. Amsterdam lost their fourth game in a row. They keep the ninth position with five games lost. Okapi Aalst will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Amsterdam will play against Phoenix Brussels (#9) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
