There was a small surprise when tenth ranked Murcia (14-12) won against at home 8th ranked Gran Canaria (13-12) 86-75 on Sunday. Murcia looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. The winners were led by American-Georgian guard Thaddus McFadden (188-1987, college: Fairmont St., agency: BeoBasket) who scored that evening 18 points and the former international point guard Tomas Bellas (185-1987) supported him with 15 points. Even 22 points by Argentinian Nicolas Brussino (205-1993) did not help to save the game for Gran Canaria. Senegalese center Khalifa Diop (215-2002) added 13 points and 7 rebounds for lost side. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Murcia moved-up to eighth place. Loser Gran Canaria dropped to the ninth position with 12 games lost. They share it with Breogan. Murcia will meet higher ranked Baskonia (#7) in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Gran Canaria will play against Andorra and hope to secure a win.
