Top ranked Barca (22-7) recorded its seventh loss on the court of fifteenth ranked Zaragoza on Saturday night. Visitors were defeated by Zaragoza 76-71. 26 personal fouls committed by Barca helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The best player for the winners was Italian-American point guard Frankie Ferrari (185-1995, college: USF, agency: Players Group) who scored 16 points and 5 assists. Nigerian forward Christian Mekowulu (205-1995, college: Texas A&M) chipped in 17 points and 7 rebounds. Mekowulu is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Four Zaragoza players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was the former international Alex Abrines (198-1993) who recorded 26 points (on 9-of-10 shooting from the field) and the former international Nikola Mirotic (208-1991) added 12 points and 5 rebounds respectively. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Zaragoza (10-18) moved-up to thirteenth place, which they share with Fuenlabrada. Defending champion Barca still keeps top position with seven games lost. Zaragoza is looking forward to face higher ranked Breogan (#10) in Lugo in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Barca will play at home against Tenerife (#4) where they are definitely not considered as a favorite in this game either.
