There was no surprise when 11th ranked Gent Hawks (9-16) were defeated at home by fifth ranked Waregem (16-9) 86-76 on Saturday. It was a great shooting night for Waregem especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 52.4 percentage. Point guard Arne Steinbach (180-1992) fired 21 points and 6 assists for the winners. Guard Lucien Sissoko (200-1993) chipped in a double-double by scoring 11 points and 11 rebounds. Waregem's coach Jan Guns used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. Joeri Vermoesen (200-1993) produced 19 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists and power forward Joren Vermoesen (201-1993) added 21 points and 10 rebounds respectively for lost side. Five Waregem and four Gent Hawks players scored in double figures. Waregem have a solid series of four victories in a row. They maintain fifth place with 16-9 record. Loser Gent Hawks dropped to the tenth position with 16 games lost. They share it with Kontich. Waregem will meet at home Kontich (#10) in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Gent Hawks will play against Spirou B in Charleroi and hope to secure a win.
