There was a surprise result when sixteenth ranked Nantes (14-19) defeated on the road higher ranked Chalon/Saor (18-15) 91-86 on Saturday. Nantes looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. Senegalese guard Lamine Sambe (188-1989) stepped up and scored 19 points and 5 rebounds for the winners and American-Armenian point guard Terry Smith (185-1986, college: Mercyhurst) chipped in 21 points. The best for the losing side was Latvian Rolands Freimanis (208-1988, agency: Alti Sport) with 18 points and 7 rebounds and the former international guard Antoine Eito (188-1988) scored 15 points and 6 assists. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches allowed to play bench players in such tough game. Nantes moved-up to thirteenth place, which they share with Saint Vallier and Denain. Chalon/Saor lost their third game in a row. They dropped to the sixth position with 15 games lost. They share it with Antibes. Nantes will meet at home Saint Vallier (#14) in the next round. Chalon/Saor will play against the league's leader Sluc Nancy (#1) where they are definitely not considered as a favorite in this game either.
