Very important is a road loss of third ranked Valencia (20-11) against eighth ranked Gran Canaria (16-14) on Sunday night. Visiting Valencia was defeated by Gran Canaria in a tough game in Las Palmas 83-89. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Valencia. American-Lithuanian John Shurna (204-1990, college: Northwestern) stepped up and scored 29 points for the winners and Senegalese center Khalifa Diop (215-2002) chipped in 13 points (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field). The best for the losing side was North Macedonian point guard Nenad Dimitrijevic (190-1998, agency: BeoBasket) with 12 points and 6 assists and Canadian guard Olivier Hanlan (193-1993, college: Boston Coll.) scored 16 points. Four Valencia players scored in double figures. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Gran Canaria maintains eighth place with 16-14 record. Loser Valencia keeps the third position with 11 games lost. Gran Canaria will meet Real Betis (#15) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Valencia will play against Burgos (#16) and hope to secure a win.
