There was a surprise result when fourteenth ranked Real Betis (12-21) beat higher ranked Gran Canaria (16-15) in Sevilla 93-86 on Tuesday. Real Betis shot the lights out from three sinking 12 long-distance shots on high 52.2 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. American-Guinean point guard Shannon Evans II (185-1994, college: Arizona St.) notched a double-double by scoring 28 points and 17 assists to lead the effort and American-North Macedonian center Jacob Wiley (203-1994, college: EWU, agency: BeoBasket) supported him with 14 points and 9 rebounds. Five Real Betis players scored in double figures. Even 21 points and 5 assists by Polish-American AJ Slaughter (191-1987, college: WKU) did not help to save the game for Gran Canaria. Canadian-Jamaican guard Dylan Ennis (188-1991, college: Oregon, agency: BeoBasket) added 21 points for lost side. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Real Betis have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to thirteenth place, which they share with Obradoiro. Loser Gran Canaria keeps the eighth position with 15 games lost. Real Betis will meet higher ranked Bilbao (#10) on the road in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Gran Canaria will play against the league's second-placed Real Madrid having rather not much hope for a victory.
