There was no surprise when Gladiators were outleveled by Phoenix Hagen in Trier 102-74 on Sunday. Phoenix Hagen dominated down low during the game scoring 66 of its points in the paint compared to Gladiators' 46. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. American guard Kyle Castlin (193-1996, college: Xavier) notched 24 points to lead the effort and center Marcel Kessen (207-1997, agency: LUMANI 10.7) supported him with 16 points and 7 rebounds. Four Phoenix Hagen players scored in double figures. Even a double-double of 12 points and 11 rebounds by Marco Hollersbacher (202-2000) did not help to save the game for Gladiators. American Daniel Monteroso (191-1994, college: West Liberty) added 17 points for the hosts. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Phoenix Hagen will meet at home Rasta Vechta in the next round. Gladiators will play against Lions in Karlsruhe and hope to win that game.
