Regular Season Round 3: Battipaglia - Empoli 73-66

The biggest surprise of round 3 in Serie A2 took place in Battipaglia where host Battipaglia (2-1) beat Empoli (2-1) 73-66 on Saturday evening. They outrebounded Empoli 42-30 including 29 on the defensive glass. 28 personal fouls committed by Empoli helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The best player for the winners was naturalized American forward Bree Alford (183-1996, college: LMU) who had a double-double by scoring 14 points and 12 rebounds. Swingman Sarah Seka (177-2003) chipped in 14 points and 8 rebounds. Four Battipaglia players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was the former international guard Antonia Peresson (170-1995, college: Georgia Tech) who recorded 16 points and 8 rebounds and Slovenian Tina Cvijanovic (180-1998) added 20 points respectively. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Empoli will play next round against Matelica trying to make it back to the top of the standings. Battipaglia will try to continue on its current victory against San Salvatore on the road.
