Akademik P.'s fans can celebrate the first win of their team after four consecutive losses. They used home court advantage to defeat Shumen (1-4) 91-66 on Thursday. Akademik P. dominated down low during the game scoring 50 of its points in the paint compared to Shumen's 30. Akademik P. forced 19 Shumen turnovers and outrebounded them 47-34 including a 36-25 advantage in defensive rebounds. The winners were led by international Vasil Bachev (195-1992, college: Cuesta JC) who scored that evening 25 points and 6 assists and Tomislav Minkov (196-2001) supported him with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Four Akademik P. players scored in double figures. Even a double-double of 14 points, 10 rebounds, 7 assists and 4 steals by point guard Adriyan Sekulov (179-1996) did not help to save the game for Shumen. American guard Mike Adewunmi (196-1999, college: UTRGV) added 19 points for lost side. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. It was the only win of host team this round and in all other games visitors recorded victories. Akademik P. left bottom position moving up to tenth place, which they share with defeated Shumen. Akademik P. will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Shumen will play against Yambol (#9) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
