Regular Season Round 8: Giessen Ak. - Mannheim 72-81

Not a big story in a game when bottom-ranked Giessen Ak. (0-8) lost at home to third ranked Mannheim (6-2) 81-72 on Saturday. Mannheim forced 19 Giessen Ak. turnovers. The winners were led by naturalized Russian Albert Kuppe (200-1988) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 40 points (!!!) and 11 rebounds and swingman Alexander Kuhn (198-1992) supported him with 11 points and 11 rebounds. Four Mannheim players scored in double figures. Mannheim's coach used an eleven-player rotation and allowed the starting five to get some rest. Even a double-double of 31 points and 17 rebounds by American swingman Terry Winn III (201-1995, college: UTRGV) did not help to save the game for Giessen Ak.. Christopher Herget (180-2004) added 9 points and 4 assists for the hosts. Mannheim have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to second place, which they share with Stuttgart and Recklinghausen. Newly promoted Giessen Ak. still closes the standings with eight games lost. They share the position with Kronberg. Mannheim will meet at home Tuebingen 2 (#7) in the next round where they are favorite. Giessen Ak. will play against the league's second-placed Stuttgart (#2) and hopes to get finally their first victory.
