A very close game took place in Aalst between Okapi Aalst and Antwerp Giants. Sixth ranked Okapi Aalst (3-3) got a very close home victory over 8th ranked Antwerp Giants (1-3). Okapi Aalst managed to escape with a 2-point win 78-76 on Sunday evening. Serbian Nikola Popovic (211-1997, college: Boston Coll.) notched a double-double by scoring 20 points and 10 rebounds (on 8-of-9 shooting from the field) to lead the effort and Montenegrin Ivan Maras (207-1986) supported him with 15 points and 11 rebounds. Even 19 points and 7 rebounds by forward Thijs De Ridder (203-2003) did not help to save the game for Antwerp Giants. American point guard Avery Woodson (188-1993, college: Butler) added 12 points, 7 assists and 4 steals. Five Antwerp Giants players scored in double figures. Okapi Aalst have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain sixth position with 3-3 record. Antwerp Giants lost third consecutive game. They keep the eighth place with three games lost. Okapi Aalst will meet at home higher ranked Belfius Mons-Hainaut (#5) in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Antwerp Giants will play against Circus Brussels and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
