Regular Season Round 5: MBC-Niko 2 - Poltava 49-63

The most crucial game of the last round was the first loss of undefeated MBC-Niko 2 (3-1) in Mykolaiv on Friday night. Hosts were defeated by Poltava (3-1) 63-49. It was a key game for the top position in the league. The game was mostly controlled by Poltava. MBC-Niko 2 managed to win second period 18-17. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Poltava held MBC-Niko 2 to an opponent 24.5 percent shooting from the field compared to 39.7 percent accuracy of the winners. Poltava forced 20 MBC-Niko 2 turnovers. Worth to mention a great performance of center Sergiy Kuzmenko (205-1995) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 19 points and 15 rebounds and point guard Bogdan Stepanchenko (180-2000) who added 17 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists during the contest. Four Poltava players scored in double figures. At the losing side forward Maksym Shtanko (200-1999) responded with 14 points and 9 rebounds and swingman Oleksiy Kochura (195-2001) scored 17 points. Poltava have a solid three-game winning streak. Newly promoted Poltava maintains first position with 3-1 record, which they share with defeated MBC-Niko 2. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
