Regular Season Round 8: Trier - Bremerhaven 84-69

There was a small surprise when seventeenth ranked Gladiators (2-6) beat 14th ranked Eisbaeren Bremerhaven (2-6) in Trier 84-69 on Sunday. Gladiators looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists comparing to just 10 passes made by Eisbaeren Bremerhaven's players. The winners were led by American Daniel Monteroso (191-1994, college: West Liberty) who scored that evening 23 points and point guard Garai Zeeb (187-1997) supported him with 7 points, 8 rebounds and 10 assists. Four Gladiators players scored in double figures. Gladiators' coach Pascal Heinrichs used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. Even 23 points by American guard Matt Frierson (185-1997, college: Citadel) did not help to save the game for Eisbaeren Bremerhaven. Naturalized American Daniel Norl (188-1995, college: Omaha) added 16 points and 4 assists for the guests. Gladiators moved-up to fourteenth place, which they share with 3 other teams including defeated Eisbaeren Bremerhaven. Eisbaeren Bremerhaven lost fourth consecutive game. Gladiators will meet higher ranked Science City Jena (#7) on the road in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Eisbaeren Bremerhaven will play against Schwenningen (#18) and hope to secure a win.
