Kouvot was ahead by 5 points after three quarters before a 25-8 charge of Kataja, which allowed them to win the game. Strangely Kouvot outrebounded Kataja 46-30 including a 18-7 advantage in offensive rebounds. They brought some defensive toughness making 7 blocks. It was an exceptional evening for American guard Lamonte Turner (188-1997, college: Tennessee) who led the winners and scored 16 points and 6 assists. His fellow American import forward Galin Smith (206-1998, college: Maryland) accounted for 14 points and 10 rebounds for the winning side. Kataja's coach Petri Virtanen allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. American guard Quan Jackson (193-1997, college: UAB) came up with 21 points and 5 rebounds and the former international center Hannes Polla (211-1998, college: UT Martin) added 10 points and 12 rebounds respectively for Kouvot in the defeat. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Kataja moved-up to third place, which they share with Seagulls. Kouvot at the other side dropped to the seventh position with five games lost. Kataja will play against Pyrinto (#10) in Tampere in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Kouvot will play on the road against Kotka and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
