Regular Season Round 13: Challans - Lorient 87-86

Important game to mention about took place in Challans. Third ranked Vendee Challans (9-4) saved a 1-point victory at home edging 6th ranked Lorient (7-6) 87-86 on Friday evening. It ended at the same time the five-game winning streak of Lorient. Strangely Lorient outrebounded Vendee Challans 39-27 including 29 on the defensive glass. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 25 assists. Point guard Jeremy Bichard (186-1990) stepped up and scored 20 points and 8 assists for the winners and Lithuanian forward Gilvydas Biruta (206-1991, college: URI) chipped in 17 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists. Five Vendee Challans players scored in double figures. At the losing side naturalized Guinean forward Abdoulaye Sy (201-1995) responded with a double-double by scoring 20 points, 11 rebounds and 7 assists (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field) and Guinean point guard Ahmed Doumbia (195-1989) scored 22 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Vendee Challans maintains third place with 9-4 record having just two points less than leader Rouen, which they share with Caen and Pont-de-Cheruy. Lorient at the other side keeps the sixth position with six games lost. They share it with Vitre and Orchies. Vendee Challans will play against C'Chartres (#4) at home in the next round. Lorient will play against the league's leader Union Rennes and hopes to get back on the winning track.
