Regular Season Round 9: Zalgiris - Birzu 115-72

Rather predictable result in Kaunas where seventh ranked Zalgiris I (5-4) smashed 11th ranked Birzu (2-7) 115-72 on Sunday. The game without a history. Zalgiris I led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. Zalgiris I forced 21 Birzu turnovers and outrebounded them 53-28 including a 19-4 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 36 assists comparing to just 22 passes made by Birzu's players. The best player for the winners was forward Vytautas Zygas (196-2005) who had a double-double by scoring 22 points, 15 rebounds and 6 assists. Martynas Kancevicius (-2006) chipped in a double-double by scoring 17 points and 15 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was guard Domas Undzenas (186-2005) who recorded 16 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists and swingman Danielius Mulevicius (195-2006) added 21 points and 5 assists respectively. Five Zalgiris I and four Birzu players scored in double figures. Zalgiris I moved-up to sixth place. Loser Birzu dropped to the tenth position with seven games lost. Zalgiris I will meet at home Marijampoles (#11) in the next round which should be theoretically another easy game. Birzu will play against Panevezio and hope to secure a win.
