Regular Season Round 9: Aalst - Mechelen 77-81

One of the most interesting games of round 9 was a derby match between two teams from Belgium. Second ranked Kangoeroes won against host Okapi Aalst (5-4) 81-77. It ended at the same time the five-game winning streak of Okapi Aalst. The best player for the winners was American guard Brian Fobbs (196-1998, college: Towson) who scored 29 points and 9 rebounds. Nigerian center Richmond Aririguzoh (206-1998, college: Princeton) chipped in 11 points and 8 rebounds. Kangoeroes' coach used an eleven-player rotation in such tough game. At the other side the best for losing team was American point guard Jordan Walker (186-1997, college: Morehead St.) who recorded 23 points and 6 rebounds and Serbian Nikola Popovic (211-1997, college: Boston Coll.) added 13 points and 8 rebounds respectively. Four Okapi Aalst players scored in double figures. Kangoeroes (6-2) have an impressive series of six victories in a row. They keep a position of league leader, which they share with Oostende and ZZ Leiden. Loser Okapi Aalst keeps the fourth place with four games lost. They share the position with Charleroi and Yoast Utd.. Kangoeroes will meet at home Liege Basket (#9) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Okapi Aalst will play against Limburg United (#3) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
