Very important is a road loss of third ranked Rapid (7-3) against fourth ranked Ploiesti CSM (7-3) on Friday night. Visiting Rapid was crushed by Ploiesti CSM in Ploiesti 92-61. Ploiesti CSM dominated down low during the game scoring 64 of its points in the paint compared to Rapid's 28. Ploiesti CSM had a 34-23 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. It was a great evening for Serbian center Veljko Brkic (206-1995) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 23 points and 13 rebounds. American Kenney Funderburk (193-1992, college: Columbus St.) helped adding 17 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists. Four Ploiesti CSM players scored in double figures. Ploiesti CSM's coach Mihai Popa felt very confident that he used 10 players and allowed the starting five to rest. American Tyler Stone (203-1991, college: SEMO) responded with 16 points and 9 rebounds and Lithuanian point guard Vaidas Kariniauskas (199-1993) scored 11 points and 6 rebounds. Ploiesti CSM moved-up to second place, which they share with Dinamo B. and Rapid. Ploiesti CSM will meet Miercurea Ciuc (#9) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Rapid will play against the league's leader Cluj Napoca (#1) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
