Regular Season Round 13: Melilla - Castello 101-81

There was a minor upset when 12th ranked Castello (4-9) was outscored on the road by fourteenth ranked Melilla (4-9) 101-81 on Tuesday. Melilla outrebounded Castello 42-31 including 29 on the defensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. Point guard Pablo Rodrigo (192-2002) nailed 18 points (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field) for the winning side and swingman Guillermo Mulero (191-1997) accounted for 15 points and 4 assists. The former international center Xavier Rey (209-1987) came up with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 10 rebounds and forward Jorge Bilbao (205-1995, college: UT Arlington) added 16 points and 7 rebounds respectively for Castello in the defeat. Five Melilla and four Castello players scored in double figures. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Melilla moved-up to eleventh place, which they share with 4 other teams including defeated Castello. Castello lost their third game in a row. Melilla will meet higher ranked Cantabria (#10) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Castello will play against Valladolid and hope to secure a win.
