Regular Season Round 12: Cluj Napoca - Rapid 83-88
Date: December 23, 2022
There was a small surprise when fourth ranked Rapid (9-3) beat on the road top-ranked Cluj Napoca (9-1) 88-83 on Friday. Cluj Napoca was trailing by 1 point at halftime but managed to get 4-point lead after three quarters before a 23-14 charge of Rapid, which allowed them to win the game. Rapid outrebounded Cluj Napoca 32-21 including 21 on the defensive glass. The winners were led by American Tyler Stone (203-1991, college: SEMO) who scored that evening 25 points and 8 rebounds and Lithuanian point guard Vaidas Kariniauskas (199-1993) supported him with 11 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists. Even 21 points (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field) by Cuban Karel Guzman (188-1995, agency: Pro Sports) did not help to save the game for Cluj Napoca. International center Emanuel Cate (207-1997) added 17 points and 4 blocks (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field). Four Rapid and five Cluj Napoca players scored in double figures. Cluj Napoca's coach Mihai Silvasan rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Rapid moved-up to third place. Defending champion Cluj Napoca still keeps top position with one game lost. They share it with Oradea. Rapid will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Cluj Napoca will play against Sibiu and hope to secure a win.
