Regular Season Round 12: Rapid - Targu Jiu 87-62
Date: December 28, 2022
Very predictable result when fourth ranked Rapid (9-3) rolled over bottom-ranked Targu Jiu (0-10) in Bucuresti 87-62 on Wednesday. The game was mostly controlled by Rapid. Targu Jiu managed to win second period 21-14. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Targu Jiu to just 5 points in first quarter. Rapid dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to Targu Jiu's 34. They outrebounded Targu Jiu 35-23 including 25 on the defensive glass. The winners were led by Lithuanian point guard Vaidas Kariniauskas (199-1993) who scored that evening 25 points and 6 assists and American Tyler Stone (203-1991, college: SEMO) supported him with 16 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists. Even 25 points and 8 rebounds by Canadian Shamiel Stevenson (198-1998, college: Nebraska, agency: Interperformances) did not help to save the game for Targu Jiu. Greek center Thomas Kottas (206-1996) added 11 points and 6 rebounds. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Rapid moved-up to third place. Loser Targu Jiu still closes the standings with ten games lost. Rapid will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Targu Jiu will play against Miercurea Ciuc (#9) and hopes to get finally their first victory.
