Regular Season Round 13: Varese - Tortona 88-89

Important game to mention about took place in Varese. Third ranked Tortona (9-4) saved a 1-point victory on the road edging 5th ranked Varese (7-6) 89-88 in the fight for the third place. Tortona dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to Varese's 30. It was a great shooting night for Tortona especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 56.3 percentage. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 31 assists comparing to just 14 passes made by Varese's players. American Mike Daum (206-1995, college: S.Dakota St.) nailed 17 points and 7 rebounds (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field) for the winning side and his fellow American import point guard Semaj Christon (190-1992, college: Xavier) accounted for 10 points and 10 assists. American guard Colbey Ross (185-1998, college: Pepperdine) came up with a double-double by scoring 35 points (!!!), 5 rebounds and 10 assists and guard Tomas Woldetensae (196-1998, college: Virginia) added 17 points and 5 rebounds respectively for Varese in the defeat. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Tortona maintains third place with 9-4 record having just two points less than leader Milano. Varese at the other side dropped to the fourth position with six games lost. They share it with 4 other teams. Tortona will play against league's second-placed Virtus BO in Bologna in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Varese will play on the road against Brindisi and hopes to get back on the winning track.
