Regular Season Round 13: Balkan - CSKA 81-67

Rather predictable result when second ranked Balkan (9-3) won against 5th ranked CSKA (7-6) in Botevgrad 81-67. Balkan players were unselfish on offense dishing 23 assists. The former international swingman Hristo Zahariev (198-1990) stepped up and scored 20 points and 5 rebounds for the winners and the former international Pavlin Ivanov (195-1993) chipped in 15 points. Balkan's coach Toni Dechev used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the losing side Bahamas center Zane Knowles (208-1992, college: TAMUCC, agency: BIG) responded with 20 points and 8 rebounds and American guard Ryle Owens (192-1997, college: Young Harris) scored 15 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists. Defending champion maintains second place with 9-3 record having five points less than leader Rilski. Newly promoted CSKA dropped to the fourth position with six games lost. They share it with Spartak Pleven. Balkan will play against Levski (#3) in Sofia in the next round, which may be the game of the day. CSKA will play at home against the league's leader Rilski and hopes to get back on the winning track.
