Regular Season Round 12: Flames - United 58-82
Date: January 8, 2023
Rather predictable result when ninth ranked United (6-5) rolled over 12th ranked Flames (2-10) in Vienna 82-58 on Sunday. The game was mostly controlled by United. Flames managed to win third quarter 21-14. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Flames to just 6 points in first quarter. United forced 26 Flames turnovers. The winners were led by guard Obinna Ndukwe (183-2003) who scored that evening 19 points and Italian guard Bruno Golino (189-2002) supported him with 18 points. Even a double-double of 14 points and 13 rebounds by American center Evan Frank (203, college: Wabash) did not help to save the game for Flames. Slovenian point guard Jernej Heine (191-2000) added 12 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. United moved-up to eighth place, which they share with Lions. Flames lost tenth consecutive game. They keep the twelfth position with ten games lost. United will meet higher ranked Blackbirds (#3) in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Flames will play against Worthersee Piraten (#5) and hope to secure a win.
