Regular Season Round 13: Ridzene - Zalgiris 43-53

Very expected game when 17th ranked Latvian Ridzene (4-5) lost to eleventh ranked Lithuanian Zalgiris (6-4) in Riga 43-53 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Zalgiris. Ridzene managed to win fourth quarter 19-14. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Ridzene to just 6 points in third quarter. They outrebounded Ridzene 42-25 including 17 on the offensive glass. Matas Motiejaitis nailed 11 points for the winning side and Benas Gudonis accounted for 6 points. Zalgiris' coach used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Karlis Vallis (-2006) came up with 12 points and 7 rebounds and Teodors Liepnieks (-2006) added 9 points and 4 assists respectively for Ridzene in the defeat. Zalgiris moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Tartu and Hyundai. Loser Ridzene keeps the seventeenth position with five games lost. Zalgiris will meet at home league's second-placed SKM in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Ridzene's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Riga to the arena DSN Riga.
