Regular Season Round 19: Braunschweig - Westerstede 86-77

There was no surprise when 9th ranked Westerstede (5-12) was defeated on the road by seventh ranked SG Braunschweig (10-7) 86-77 on Saturday. SG Braunschweig forced 19 Westerstede turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. Center Jannik Goettsche (208-2000, agency: Octagon Europe) fired a double-double by scoring 11 points and 14 rebounds for the winners. Naturalized Turkish center Mertcan Gerhardt (202-2002) chipped in 16 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists. Four SG Braunschweig players scored in double figures. Point guard Fritz Hemschemeier (182-1998) produced 19 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists and Croatian forward Gasper Kocevar (205-2004) added 20 points and 9 rebounds respectively for lost side. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. SG Braunschweig moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Goetting.ASC. Westerstede lost third consecutive game. They keep the ninth position with 12 games lost. SG Braunschweig will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Westerstede will play against Goetting.ASC (#6) and hope to secure a win.
