Regular Season Round 19: Recklinghausen - Hagen-Haspe 71-88

Round 19 games in the Regionalliga were marked by very close results. The first upset was a home defeat of 7th ranked Recklinghausen (9-10) by sixth ranked Hagen-Haspe (10-9) who outscored them by 17 points 88-71. Hagen-Haspe dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Recklinghausen's 32. Hagen-Haspe forced 24 Recklinghausen turnovers and outrebounded them 38-23 including a 28-17 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was a great evening for American swingman Ricardo Artis II (198-1993, college: Wiley) who led his team to a victory scoring 27 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. Dutch point guard Sven Cikara (188-2001, agency: One Motive Sports) helped adding 16 points and 6 assists. Artis II is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Four Hagen-Haspe players scored in double figures. Hagen-Haspe's coach used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the losing side American forward Obi Okafor (198, college: Drury, agency: GoEmpire Group) responded with 25 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists and point guard Niklas Meesmann (186-1998) scored 22 points. Hagen-Haspe moved-up to fifth place, which they share with 4 other teams. Recklinghausen lost fourth consecutive game. They dropped to the eighth position with ten games lost. They share it with 3 other teams. Hagen-Haspe is looking forward to face league's second-placed Ibbenbueren at home in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Recklinghausen will play against Hamm (#11) and is hoping to prove to their supporters that they can break losing series.
