The game between second ranked Balkan (14-4) and 11th ranked Shumen (3-15) in Botevgrad ended with biggest points difference. Balkan outscored guests from Shumen 109-80. Balkan shot 62.7 percent from the field. Balkan outrebounded Shumen 35-21 including a 29-18 advantage in defensive rebounds. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 35 assists comparing to just 16 passes made by Shumen's players. Worth to mention a quality performance of Chilean-Spanish center Manny Suarez (208-1993, college: Creighton) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 14 points and 12 rebounds. Forward Iliyan Pishtikov (192-2004) helped adding 24 points. Four Balkan players scored in double figures. At the losing side American guard Ishmael El-Amin (190, college: URI, agency: BIG) responded with 27 points and the other American import forward Rey Idowu (206, college: Tulsa) scored 13 points and 8 rebounds. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Balkan have a solid series of three victories in a row. Defending champion maintains second place with 14-4 record having five points less than leader Rilski. Shumen lost fifth consecutive game. They stay at the bottom position with 15 games lost. Balkan will again play against bottom-ranked Shumen (#11) at home in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Shumen will have a break next round.
