Regular Season Round 16: Grindavik - Njardvik 71-94

Not a big story in a game when 7th ranked Grindavik (7-9) was rolled over at home by second ranked Njardvik (13-3) 94-71 on Friday. The game was mostly controlled by Njardvik. Grindavik managed to win third quarter 24-17. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Njardvik dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to Grindavik's 28. They outrebounded Grindavik 43-31 including a 33-21 advantage in defensive rebounds. Njardvik looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists comparing to just 8 passes made by Grindavik's players. American point guard Dedrick Basile (178-1994, college: CSUB) fired 23 points, 9 rebounds and 8 assists for the winners. Argentinian Lisandro Rasio (197-1990) chipped in a double-double by scoring 19 points and 13 rebounds (on 8-of-9 shooting from the field). Four Njardvik players scored in double figures. American point guard Damier Pitts (177-1989, college: Marshall, agency: SLN) produced 27 points and the former international guard Olafur Olafsson (194-1990) added 15 points and 13 rebounds respectively for lost side. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Njardvik have an impressive six-game winning streak. They keep a position of league leader. Grindavik lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the seventh place with nine games lost. They share the position with Stjarnan. Njardvik will meet at home Breidablik (#5) in the next round. Grindavik will play against Tindastoll in Sauoarkrokur and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
