Regular Season Round 17: Njardvik - Breidablik 135-95
Date: February 16, 2023
Leader Njardvik delivered the fourteenth victory. This time they crushed 6th ranked Breidablik (8-9) 135-95. It looked good early as Breidablik took a 1-point small lead at the end of first quarter. But then Njardvik had a 38-27 second period charge getting the lead and Breidablik was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 95-135. Njardvik dominated down low during the game scoring 62 of its points in the paint compared to Breidablik's 30 and made 19-of-21 charity shots (90.5 percent) during the game. They outrebounded Breidablik 52-30 including a 42-23 advantage in defensive rebounds. Njardvik players were unselfish on offense dishing 34 assists comparing to just 11 passes made by Breidablik's players. Spanish forward Nacho Martin (204-1983) orchestrated the victory by scoring 31 points and 7 rebounds (on 12-of-13 shooting from the field). Croatian power forward Mario Matasovic (200-1993, college: Sacred Heart) contributed with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 11 rebounds for the winners. American guard Everage Richardson (191-1985, college: Coastal) answered with 34 points (!!!) and 6 rebounds and American-French guard Clayton Ladine (187-1998, college: Rocky Mountain) added 12 points and 5 rebounds in the effort for Breidablik. Four Njardvik and five Breidablik players scored in double figures. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Njardvik (14-3) have an impressive series of seven victories in a row. They maintain first place. Breidablik lost third consecutive game. They keep the sixth position with nine games lost. Njardvik will play against Haukar (#4) in Hafnarfjordur in the next round. Breidablik will play at home against Tindastoll and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
