Second Stage Round 3: Timisoara - Cluj Napoca 59-83
Date: March 1, 2023
Very expected game when Timisoara (3-8) was smashed at home by Cluj Napoca (10-1) 83-59 on Wednesday. The game without a history. Cluj Napoca led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to Timisoara's 22 and made 16-of-20 free shots (80.0 percent) during the game. They outrebounded Timisoara 36-24 including a 29-17 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was an exceptional evening for the former international center Emanuel Cate (207-1997) who led the winners and scored 16 points and 9 rebounds (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field). American swingman Jalen Jones (201-1993, college: Texas A&M) accounted for 21 points and 6 rebounds for the winning side. Serbian point guard Ilija Djokovic (191-1996) came up with 14 points and 6 assists and Serbian forward Adam Mirkovic (199-1991) added 11 points respectively for Timisoara in the defeat. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Cluj Napoca will meet Constanta (#9) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Timisoara will play against Rapid in Bucuresti and hope to secure a win.
