Regular Season Round 17: TSU - Batumi 80-86
Date: March 5, 2023
We could consider it a predictable result in the game between close teams in Tbilisi where sixth ranked Batumi (8-7) defeated 5th ranked TSU (8-8) 86-80. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 20-14. But TSU won second period 22-18. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Batumi won last quarter 28-24. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 21 assists. TSU was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. American guard Kyle Riddley (192-1996, college: Pfeiffer, agency: Project B Sports) nailed 32 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists for the winning side and his fellow American import guard Brandon Alston (196-1995, college: Georgia Tech, agency: GoEmpire Group) accounted for 14 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists. Four Batumi players scored in double figures. American guard Djimon Henson (193-1998, college: Morehead St.) came up with 33 points (!!!) and the former international power forward Beka Bekauri (209-1991, agency: BIG) added 17 points, 12 rebounds and 5 blocks respectively for TSU in the defeat. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Batumi moved-up to fifth place. TSU lost their third game in a row. They dropped to the sixth position with eight games lost. They share it with Delta. Batumi will play against bottom-ranked Vera (#11) in Tbilisi in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. TSU will have a break next round.
