Regular Season Round 18: Haukar - Njardvik 89-97

An interesting game for Njardvik (15-3) which played road game in Hafnarfjordur against 4th ranked Haukar (12-6). First ranked Njardvik managed to get a 8-point victory 97-89. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Haukar. It looked good early as Haukar took a 7-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Njardvik had a 27-18 second period charge getting the lead and Haukar was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 89-97. Njardvik players were unselfish on offense dishing 25 assists. The former international guard Haukur Palsson (198-1992, college: Maryland) scored 20 points and 8 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and American point guard Dedrick Basile (178-1994, college: CSUB) chipped in 10 points, 5 rebounds and 13 assists during the contest. The best for the losing side was Danish forward Daniel Mortensen (204-1994, college: Barry) with a double-double by scoring 29 points, 9 rebounds, 10 assists and 4 steals and forward Orri Gunnarsson (195-2003) scored 20 points and 5 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Njardvik have an impressive eight-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 15-3 record. Newly promoted Haukar dropped to the third place with six games lost. They share the position with Keflavik. Njardvik will play against Thor Thorl (#7) in Thorlakshofn in the next round where they are favorite. Haukar will play on the road against Tindastoll (#5) in Sauoarkrokur and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
