Top ranked Schio (22-2) recorded its second loss on the court of third ranked Venezia on Thursday night. Visitors were edged by Venezia 73-72. It ended at the same time the six-game winning streak of Schio. The best player for the winners was American forward Jessica Shepard (193-1996, college: Notre Dame) who had a double-double by scoring 25 points and 14 rebounds. Finnish-Egyptian center Awak Kuier (196-2001) chipped in a double-double by scoring 20 points, 10 rebounds and 4 blocks. Four Venezia players scored in double figures. American point guard Marina Mabrey (180, college: Notre Dame) produced 23 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists and Senegalese-Spanish center Astou Ndour (198-1994) added 13 points and 12 rebounds respectively for the guests. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Venezia maintains third place with 19-4 record having four points less than leader Schio. Defending champion Schio still keeps top position with two games lost. Venezia are looking forward to face Moncalieri (#10) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Schio will play against Brescia (#14) and is hoping to win this game.
