There was a small surprise when Esgueira (10-15) won against at home Povoa (12-13) 83-78 on Saturday. It was an exceptional evening for Canadian forward Biniam Ghebrekidan (206-1996, college: Carleton) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 26 points and 10 rebounds. American forward Ryan Ogden (193-1996, college: Southwestern) accounted for 27 points and 6 rebounds for the winning side. Ogden is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Senegalese center Tanor Ngom (216-1998, college: FSU) came up with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 14 rebounds and American guard Sherwood Brown (193-1991, college: FGCU) added 16 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists respectively for Povoa in the defeat. Four Povoa players scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Esgueira will meet Imortal (#7) in the next round. Povoa will have a break next round.
