Not a big story in a game in Birzai where 9th ranked Birzu (4-15) was defeated by fourth ranked Zalgiris (14-6) 100-91 on Monday. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 26-22. But Birzu won second period 26-25. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Birzu 44-21 including a 28-12 advantage in defensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was forward Vytautas Zygas (196-2005) who had a double-double by scoring 23 points, 12 rebounds and 6 assists. Tomas Stankevicius (-2005) chipped in 23 points and 6 assists. Four Zalgiris players scored in double figures. Point guard Nojus Petraitis (178-2005) produced a double-double by scoring 35 points (!!!), 10 assists and 4 steals and swingman Danielius Mulevicius (195-2006) added 18 points and 5 rebounds respectively for the hosts. Zalgiris have an impressive seven-game winning streak. They maintain fourth position with 14-6 record. Loser Birzu keeps the ninth place with 15 games lost. Zalgiris will meet Marijampoles (#11) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Birzu will play against Panevezio and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
